The Blackeyed Susans’ music is lush, dark and romantic. Their op-shop stylings are beautifully twisted into something uniquely their own. It’s more roll than rock, a sad sweet music full of drama and humanity. The Blackeyed Susans formed in 1989 in Perth as a holiday band for members of The Triffids, Chad’s Tree and Martha’s Vineyard. That holiday band evolved into an enduring vehicle for singer Rob Snarski's honeyed tones and bassist Phil Kakulas' evocative songwriting. In the past twenty years their membership has boasted a number of Australian musical luminaries from bands such as The Bad Seeds, Augie March and The Drones. They’ve toured the world, shared stages with the likes of Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen and released countless albums, singles, vinyl and CDs of strange and beautiful music. A retrospective best-of CD entitled 'Reveal Yourself' was released in late 2009 charting the band's history. This year at the Queenscliff Music Festival, The Blackeyed Susans will play a rare full band show and join forces with The Triffids in celebration of the work of their co-founder and Triffids’ singer/songwriter David McComb. |
