FOOT-in-the-DOOR

Want to be involved in 2010?

Maybe you're between the ages of 15 - 23, live in the Bellarine/Geelong area (or even better, right in Queenscliff/Pt Lonsdale), and are keen on being involved in the running and organisation of our great Festival?! What is FOOT-in-the-DOOR program?

FOOT-in-the-DOOR is a vibrant youth program that is supported by FReeZa and runs for the duration of the Queenscliff Music Festival. Its purpose is to help emerging young artists showcase their talents, and as the name suggests get a ‘foot-in-the-door’ in the music industry. It gives young artists the chance to perform live in front of an audience at a nationally acclaimed Music Festival, which is a very valuable and rewarding experience for those selected artists.

There are three sections of the FOOT-in-the-DOOR competition: Acoustic, Blues Roots & Beyond, and Pop/Rock. Five bands/artists will play in each section battling it out in front of a panel of industry judges and spectators for a cash prize.

The 2009 FITD competition featured some up-and-coming stars. We received a record number of applications last year, and the competition for a spot was stronger than ever.

“You’d be crazy not to drop in for a few of these acts, as very shortly some of these artists will be selling out venues, and filling our Mainstage”. Andrew Orvis, FITD Youth Program Coordinator.

Past winners include:

  • Sleep Decade (The Periscopes)

  • Georgia Fields & The Freeways

  • Sambrose Automobile

  • Almacknjack

  • Matt Walters

  • The Houses

  • Vasco Era

What drives the FOOT-in-the-DOOR?

Not only is the FOOT-in-the-DOOR competition aimed at helping young emerging artists perform and compete at the QMF, it is also managed and run by youth.

The FOOT-in-the-DOOR youth program aims to bring young people from the Borough of Queenscliffe together to get involved in the Queenscliff Music Festival and with their community. The program is proudly supported by FReeZa, a Victorian Government initiative which supports and encourages young Victorians to get involved in community life by planning and running drug and alcohol-free music and cultural events for other young people. To find out more information on FReeZa you can visit their website at www.freeza.vic.gov.au

Members of the FOOT-in-the-DOOR committee gain a hands-on learning experience helping to develop skills in areas such as music management, event management, stage management and marketing just to name a few.
