Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players Markus Tomasi, Fiona Sargeant, David Berlin As well as the many concerts given by the full orchestra in Melbourne, the MSO also gives more than 20 performances each year in regional Victoria, and takes musicians to schools around the State for workshops and tutorials. The musicians are also featured in a chamber setting in the MSO Chamber Players series, presented four times a year in the Orchestra's home, the Iwaki Auditorium, ABC Southbank. It was for one of these concerts that the MSO Principal players performing for you at QMF prepared Mozart's Divertimento. If the word Divertimento suggests something decorative, or even frivolous, it is a misleading label at best for the work that has been described as the greatest string trio ever written, Mozart's Divertimento K563. He composed it not long after completing the Jupiter symphony, and shares with that work a richness of expression that remains completely captivating. |
